Raku Ornamental Swirl

Slab built technique used to create this ornamental piece 10.5 inches tall and then raku fired using transparent crackle glaze.  
Fired to 1000 degrees and then removed from the kiln which causes a thermal shock which creates a beautiful  crackle effect within the glaze.  It is then put into a reduction bin filled with shredded paper and sawdust and then the lid put on to trap the smoke.  The smoke then penetrates through the crackle of the glaze creating this gorgeous smoked crackle effect on the piece.
