Raku Ornamental Vase

Slab built technique used to create this ornamental vase 5.5 inches tall, 2.5inches wide at base and 7 inches at widest part.  Raku fired using Turquoise crackle glaze.  Due to this being a rake fired vase, it is not water tight and so unable to fill with water, but looks beautiful with some dried flowers.
Fired to 1000 degrees and then removed from the kiln which causes a thermal shock which creates a beautiful  crackle effect within the glaze.  It is then put into a reduction bin filled with shredded paper and sawdust and then the lid put on to trap the smoke.  The smoke then penetrates through the crackle of the glaze creating this gorgeous smoked crackle effect on the piece.
